## Risk Mapping & Safe Change Strategy

### A. Critical Dependencies (Tightly Coupled Components)

#### Dependency 1: ACF Field Names ↔ Theme Templates
**Components Involved:**
- ACF Pro plugin (stores field definitions)
- Theme templates: `page-about.php`, `page-homenew.php`
- WordPress postmeta table (stores field values)

**Coupling Points:**
```
ACF Field Name "team_title"
    ↓ (field definition stored in)
wp_postmeta (as 'team_title')
    ↓ (retrieved by template via)
<?php the_field('team_title'); ?>
    ↓ (rendered in)
page-about.php line 29
    ↓ (displayed as)
<h2 class="color-blue mb-20">{{ page title }}</h2>
```

**Failure Mode:** If field name changes in ACF → `the_field()` returns empty → pages show blank sections

**Risk Level:** 🔴 **CRITICAL** - Affects: About page, Home page, Contact page, Service pages

---

#### Dependency 2: Custom Post Types ↔ AJAX Handlers ↔ Templates
**Components Involved:**
- Custom Post Type UI plugin (registers 'services' CPT)
- functions.php AJAX handlers: `get_post_data()`, `show_select_post()`, `load_service_content()`
- single-services.php, archive.php templates
- Frontend JavaScript (event listeners)

**Coupling Points:**
```
CPT Registration: 'services'
    ↓ (creates post type)
wp_posts.post_type = 'services'
    ↓ (queried by AJAX handler)
WP_Query(array('post_type' => 'services'))
    ↓ (results passed to)
Frontend JavaScript via AJAX response
    ↓ (rendered in)
Archive/single templates
```

**Failure Mode 1:** If CPT name changes from 'services' → AJAX queries return empty results → no services display
**Failure Mode 2:** If WP_Query syntax breaks → AJAX returns error → services don't load → page breaks
**Failure Mode 3:** If AJAX endpoint path changes → JavaScript fetch fails → "404" response → no content loads

**Risk Level:** 🔴 **CRITICAL** - Affects: 86 service posts, entire services page, filtering system

---

#### Dependency 3: Service_type Taxonomy ↔ Service Posts ↔ Sticky Tabs
**Components Involved:**
- Custom Post Type UI plugin (registers 'service_type' taxonomy)
- ACF field: 'taxonomy_image' (stores tab icon images)
- 32 taxonomy terms (service categories)
- 86 service posts (assigned to terms)
- single-services.php template (renders tabs)
- AJAX: get_post_data() (filters by term)

**Coupling Points:**
```
service_type Taxonomy Terms
    ↓ (assigned to)
Individual service posts via wp_term_relationships
    ↓ (retrieved by template via)
get_terms('service_type', array(...))
    ↓ (displays as)
Sticky tabs with ACF field:
  get_field('taxonomy_image', 'service_type_' . $term->term_id)
    ↓ (AJAX queries by term_id)
$args = array('tax_query' => array('taxonomy' => 'service_type', 'terms' => $term_id))
    ↓ (renders matching posts)
```

**Failure Mode 1:** If taxonomy name changes from 'service_type' → WP_Query fails → no posts found → services don't filter
**Failure Mode 2:** If ACF field 'taxonomy_image' deleted → images don't display → tabs look broken
**Failure Mode 3:** If term_id changes → old links become invalid → bookmarks/URLs break

**Risk Level:** 🔴 **CRITICAL** - Affects: 32 categories, 86 posts, all service navigation

---

#### Dependency 4: Gravity Forms ↔ WP Mail SMTP Pro ↔ Email Delivery
**Components Involved:**
- Gravity Forms plugin (Form ID 1)
- WP Mail SMTP Pro plugin (SMTP credentials)
- Contact page template (page-contact.php)
- Email notifications for form submissions

**Coupling Points:**
```
Contact Form (Form ID 1)
    ↓ (user submits via)
[gravityform id="1" ...]
    ↓ (form submission triggers)
Gravity Forms email notification hook
    ↓ (uses wp_mail() function)
WP Mail SMTP Pro intercepts wp_mail()
    ↓ (sends via)
SMTP server (Gmail/other provider)
    ↓ (notification email sent to)
info@glocalconsultants.com
```

**Failure Mode 1:** If WP Mail SMTP Pro credentials are wrong → emails fail silently → no notifications received
**Failure Mode 2:** If form ID changes → shortcode retrieves wrong form → different form displays
**Failure Mode 3:** If SMTP server is down → wp_mail() fails → form submission fails → user sees error

**Risk Level:** 🟠 **HIGH** - Affects: Contact form functionality, business communication

---

#### Dependency 5: Site URLs (Database) ↔ Environment ↔ Frontend Links
**Components Involved:**
- wp_options: siteurl, home (currently: http://localhost:8000)
- Template hardcoded links: `home_url()`, `bloginfo('url')`
- JavaScript fetch/AJAX endpoints
- Gravity Forms submission endpoints
- Database configuration in wp-config.php

**Coupling Points:**
```
wp_options.siteurl
    ↓ (set to)
http://localhost:8000 (current local development)
    ↓ (returned by)
home_url(), bloginfo('url'), site_url()
    ↓ (used in)
AJAX endpoints, form action URLs, navigation links
    ↓ (example: AJAX call to)
http://localhost:8000/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
    ↓ (fails if hostname/port changes)
```

**Failure Mode 1:** If localhost:8000 becomes unavailable → all AJAX requests fail → site becomes non-functional
**Failure Mode 2:** If migrating to production (https://glocalconsultants.com) → all hardcoded localhost links break → CORS errors
**Failure Mode 3:** If database siteurl not updated after migration → internal links point to wrong domain → SEO issues

**Risk Level:** 🔴 **CRITICAL** - Affects: All AJAX, all forms, all navigation (environment-specific)

---

#### Dependency 6: functions.php Theme Setup ↔ WordPress Initialization
**Components Involved:**
- functions.php (contains: nav menus, image sizes, AJAX hooks, script enqueuing)
- wp-includes/functions.php (WordPress core hooks)
- WordPress initialization sequence

**Coupling Points:**
```
Theme Loading
    ↓ (WordPress calls)
functions.php
    ↓ (registers)
add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'enqueue_ajax_scripts')
add_theme_support('post-thumbnails')
register_nav_menus(...)
    ↓ (hooks into WordPress lifecycle)
wp_enqueue_scripts → jQuery, AJAX script loaded
wp_head() → CSS/JS hooked
wp_footer() → Scripts hooked
```

**Failure Mode 1:** If functions.php has PHP syntax error → WordPress cannot load → "Fatal error" → site breaks completely
**Failure Mode 2:** If remove add_action for AJAX → AJAX endpoints don't exist → frontend fails silently → no dynamic content
**Failure Mode 3:** If remove register_nav_menus() → navigation menu not registered → theme cannot display menu

**Risk Level:** 🔴 **CRITICAL** - Affects: Site initialization, all enqueued assets, navigation, AJAX

---

#### Dependency 7: Frontend JavaScript ↔ HTML DOM Selectors ↔ AJAX Handlers
**Components Involved:**
- JavaScript files in assets/js/ (menu.js, slider-custom.js, ajax-script.js)
- HTML structure in page templates
- AJAX handlers in functions.php
- CSS class names

**Coupling Points:**
```
<a href="#" onclick="showPost(<?php echo get_the_id(); ?>)" class="showPost">
    ↓ (JavaScript listens for)
onclick event + CSS class .showPost
    ↓ (calls)
showPost() JavaScript function
    ↓ (which sends AJAX to)
wp.ajax.post('load_service_content', {post_id: postId})
    ↓ (endpoint must match)
add_action('wp_ajax_load_service_content', ...)
```

**Failure Mode 1:** If class name .showPost changes → CSS selector breaks → click handler doesn't attach → button becomes non-functional
**Failure Mode 2:** If AJAX action name 'load_service_content' changes → endpoint mismatch → 404 error → no content loads
**Failure Mode 3:** If HTML structure changes (e.g., move <a> tag) → event delegation breaks → clicks don't work

**Risk Level:** 🟠 **HIGH** - Affects: All dynamic interactions, service filtering, content loading

---

#### Dependency 8: Featured Images ↔ Image Sizes ↔ Templates
**Components Involved:**
- add_image_size() in functions.php (defines: home_service-image 90x90, team-image 366x257)
- Template calls: get_the_post_thumbnail_url(get_the_ID(), 'team-image')
- Database: attachment metadata
- Frontend display

**Coupling Points:**
```
add_image_size('team-image', 366, 257, true)
    ↓ (WordPress generates)
Thumbnail when image uploaded
    ↓ (referenced by)
get_the_post_thumbnail_url($post_id, 'team-image')
    ↓ (in page-about.php)
<img src="{{thumbnail_url}}" />
```

**Failure Mode 1:** If image size name changes → template calls wrong size → broken image links or wrong dimensions
**Failure Mode 2:** If remove image size → WordPress doesn't generate → <img> tag empty src → layout breaks

**Risk Level:** 🟡 **MEDIUM** - Affects: Image display, responsive layout

---
